Leader Pathway Training & Certification

“…There is no greater responsibility than leading others into harm’s way, knowing they follow willingly…”

If you are an active member of a recreational kayak group – such as a Meetup or Facebook group – or you work for a guide service, you could be heading out with some folks that might not be prepared for the conditions. Leaders have the skills to deal with what might arise on the water; they are an invaluable part of any kayaking group.

The Leader Pathway focuses on leading trips, not instruction. Leaders need to be able to maneuver effectively in conditions, and guide their guests through those conditions, but they aren’t expected to stop and run a class.

The newly-revamped ACA Leader Pathway has been upgraded to a full certification – meaning a Leader will have access to pro-deals, ACA-based insurance, and lots of resources to assist them with trip planning. Also, it can be a very good “foot in the door” when applying for guide jobs in the USA and abroad.

As of yet, there is no reciprocity between the ACA and the Dept of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (here in Maine), but we are working on that situation – so, you’ll still have to have your RMG license to work in Maine, regardless of what other certifications you have.

Liquid Sky Kayaking is currently offering Leader certification courses up to Level 3.
